Sober House
Sober Houses are living facilities that provide a structured living environment for people recovering from alcohol or substance abuse disorders. Not all sober houses are completely the same but they are all drug free environments that are beneficial for an individual recovering from substance abuse. There are no drugs or alcohol allowed in sober houses; the people who operate the homes make sure these are substance free residential living facilities that promote abstinence and recovery. Individuals who reside in sober houses help and support each other during their recovery process.
There are various reasons an individual would choose to stay in a sober home. Some people going through outpatient treatment have no other place to go while recovering from substance abuse or sometimes people are unable to go back to their living environment after inpatient treatment for various reasons.
Sober living homes are safe and helpful environments for a person who has no place to go while working toward their recovery.
All sober houses have rules that have to be complied with at all times, staying sober and substance free is one of them. In many sober homes the residents pay their own rent, buy their own foods, have to be employed or looking for employment, attend 12 step meetings, and are tested for substance use.

There was a point in my life when I realized that decisions had to start being made about my recovery from alcoholism. I had been an alcoholic for as long as I could remember, and frankly I was tired of the lies. I was tired of always being broke. I was tired of spending all of my money on alcohol, and the things I had to spend money on as part of my alcoholism, like going to court for a DUI. My life was in shambles and I needed to get help. I decided that I wanted a sober living facility or sober house to be a part of my recovery at the recommendation of a friend of mine who had been through it in the past. I am really glad I did.
The sober house where I stayed, I can guarantee it, was the reason I am still sober today. They provided me with a completely structured living environment in a time when I truly needed it. I was able to get all of the help and support that I needed when I needed it in order to overcome my addiction once and for all. Today I am completely clean and sober and I owe everything to the sober house that changed my life. If you are going through a problem with alcohol then I highly recommend this type of recovery facility for you as well. This may mean the difference between a temporary fix and actually being sober for the long term.
Traditional rehab was not doing what I needed it to do. I thought, if I can't hack it in rehab can I ever really overcome my addiction and move on with my life? For a long time I thought I was just going to struggle with my addiction to alcohol for the rest of my life. Why was I too weak to overcome my alcoholism all on my own? Someone eventually recommended to me that I try a sober house. A what? Huh? A sober house? It turns out this is a completely viable way to overcome an addiction because it allows you to deal with a structured environment while overcoming your addiction to alcohol.
The sober house where I ended up staying was the difference maker when it came to overcoming my addiction to alcohol. I was finally able to overcome my alcoholism and to move on with my life. Because I was provided with a sober living environment where I could focus on healing, I was given the tools and the support that I needed. Alcoholism is no longer a part of my life and I have been sober for several years. Sober living and the help of my sober house made all the difference in showing me that I could kick my addiction and move on with my life. If you are dealing with a drug addiction or a problem with alcoholism, then trying a sober house in your area is an idea that is well worth your consideration.
